Bauer Media Group wanted to rework LECKER, a well-established cooking brand with a large recipe catalogue and a strong promise of reliable results. Lecker.de positions itself around everyday cooking and baking, step-by-step guidance, and “Gelinggarantie” content, with tens of thousands of recipes available across the platform and its apps.

The engagement centered on a full technical renewal of the mobile application. The legacy native app was replaced with a new solution built on cutting-edge technologies for mobile cross platform, including the complete setup of the new project foundation and a full rewrite of the product.
The vision

The vision

WHERE IT ALL BEGINS

Lecker’s vision was to deliver a modern, frictionless cooking experience that matches the strength of the brand’s editorial content. The goal was to make recipe discovery, planning, and cooking guidance feel fast and intuitive on mobile, while ensuring the experience stays consistent across iOS and Android as the product evolves.

To enable that, the platform needed a cutting-edge, cross-platform technology foundation using Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform. This was not only a technology upgrade, but a long-term product strategy to simplify maintenance, accelerate feature delivery, and support future updates with confidence through a single, scalable architecture and shared codebase.
The Challenge

The Challenge

UNTANGLING THE KNOT

Lecker’s modernization was a full rebuild of a long-running native app into a cross-platform product. The goal was to replace the legacy implementation with a new Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform architecture, while preserving performance, stability, and monetization from day one.

Key challenges:

  • New cross-platform stack: adopting Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose within a young and evolving ecosystem.
  • Legacy replacement: reverse-engineering undocumented behavior and implicit business rules.
  • Native integrations & ads: bridging critical SDKs while preserving performance, stability, and monetization.
  • Rewrite without disruption: supporting dynamic ad layouts and minimizing regression risk during rollout.

The solution

HOW WE MADE IT WORK
